Though released to little fanfare in 1981, like all bizarre and wonderful records Point of View has gained an underground following over the years, with record collectors spending $200-plus for an original copy. Today you can easily purchase the Be With Records reissue released in 2018.
Marti Caine was a known British TV variety entertainer in the ’70’s who dabbled with music, ultimately uniting with British R&B producer Barry Blue to record what would become this record. Caine’s disco wasn’t chart-topping-radio-smash-hit disco, but the left of center kind with varied elements: Dub, darkness and a slow-paced comfort that has no desire to rush.
Despite the album’s quirky elements, Caine delivers all-in powerhouse vocals, no kitsch or shtick necessary. The lush cover alone makes it worthy of owning.
