Miroslav Vitous – Majesty Music
Miroslav Vitous is probably most well-known for his years as a founding member of seminal fusion group Weather Report. The Czech acoustic bass player and composer’s musical output goes far beyond those years though with numerous solo albums to his name and collaborations with legends like Jack DeJohnette, Larry Coryell, Sonny Sharrock, Toshiyuki Honda, Steve Kuhn, and others. Majesty Music, Vituos’ first album on Arista, is an underrated set of percussion and Moog synthesizer heavy fusion compositions. For a fusion album, the arrangements never get too overly busy and Vituos is able to stretch out his playing using both his fingers and a bow. A2 “See You, November” is a particular highlight with its hovering Moog synthesizer lines that gently wrap around the saxophone, bass, and percussion.
