Nancy & Lee – S.T.
We missed this classic in our Davida albums feature so here it is in the collection… One of the great left field country albums of the 60’s, Nancy & Lee is a collection of Hazlewood originals and a few covers produced in the duo’s signature “cowboy psychedelic” sound. Filled with innuendo and slightly twisted hidden meanings, tracks like “Summer Wine” and “Some Velvet Morning” appealed to both traditional country and bluegrass lovers while also drawing in listeners from the hippy movement. “Some Velvet Morning,” in particular, begins with a spaghetti western vibe but then ends up sounding like, as one critic put it, “one of the strangest, druggiest, most darkly sexual songs ever written – ambitious, beautiful and unforgettable.”
