Bit under the radar 2018 release from Swiss guitarist Pablo Color featuring Italian ambient legend Gigi Masin and renowned Japanese record collector Chee Shimizu. La Calle Roja is very much a balearic affair – perfectly capturing the feeling and sounds of idyllic summer days by the beach. Pablo’s guitar playing is featured throughout and masterfully accented with lively percussion, ambient pads, and beach field recordings. The tape echo techniques and bird sounds employed here remind me a bit of John Martyn’s “Small Hours,” which is a big plus… The first pressing of this one is completely sold out, but a second pressing featuring translucent red vinyl was made available in July. Don’t miss! Highly recommended for fans of Music from Memory, International Feel, Growing Bin, Phantom Island.
