Pete Jolly – Seasons

Released on Klaus Schulze’s Innovative Communication, Quiet Force’s Smile is a late ’80s balearic fusion album featuring glistening digital production, electronic percussion, fretless bass, and smooth jazz solos. As the cover suggests, the album has a blissful beachside atmosphere with soft jazz meeting tropical rhythms and wavelike synth patches. Vocals appear on a few tracks and they mostly sound a bit dated, but the album manages to strike a good balance between cheesy and good. “Dark Moments” is a great ambient fusion track that is just so ’80s that you can’t help but smile, and I think that’s the whole point of this record anyway? Plus, it might be worth purchasing for that album cover alone…
