One of the more underrated soft rock groups, Starbuck was formed in Atlanta, Georgia by keyboardist/vocalist/record producer Bruce Blackman and marimba player Bo Wagner. The group’s debut album is all about the lead single “Moonlight Feels Right” which features an unexpectedly magical studio moment: the marimba solo. “Wagner claimed the performance that ended up on the record was his first attempt, really just a rehearsal. But everyone seems to have realized they wouldn’t get it any better.” We first came across Starbuck through Chee Shimizu’s Obscure Sound disc guide with the group’s sophomore album Rock ‘n’ Roll Rocket featured in the “Floating” section. Both of these albums can be found easily in bargain bins and well worth it.
