Todd Rundgren – A Cappella
Composed entirely with his own voice, Todd Rundgren’s A Cappella features overdubbing techniques with the legendary E-mu Emulator. The power of sampling is in full effect with Rundgren’s voice filtered, cut, enveloped, and oscillated to become a complete instrument capable of producing drums, synths, percussion, guitar, bass, etc. Rundgren truly creates his own world here and it makes sense given the voice is largely considered the most personal and expressive instrument around. Rundgren would not release another solo album for another four years after A Cappella… Head to ISC favorite “Lost Horizon” (which we’ve heard is a tribute to Marvin Gaye) to fall deep in Rundgren’s vocal trance.
