Om Unit Meets Seekersinternational – Secret Location

A play on the classic dub reggae album title trope (ex. King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown), Steel Leg v The Electric Dread is a gloriously cheeky post-punk dub classic from Public Image Ltd’s Jah Wobble, Keith Levene (credited here as Stratetime Keith), and Steel Leg (more than likely John Lydon in disguise) alongside DJ, director, musician, and all around legendary cultural figure Don Letts. Released just shortly after Public Image’s debut album, Steel Leg v The Electric Dread pushes the group’s reggae influences to the forefront with spaced-out dub effects, sub-heavy basslines, and freaky, punk-wise synthesizers. It’s a perfect collision of reckless punk energy and dub sound system music that manages to sound totally groundbreaking while also not taking itself too seriously (just check the combination of titles “Haile Unlikely” and “Unlikely Pub”. Join us at Zizou on July 22nd for a listening session dedicated to post-punk dub classics like this one! Tickets are available here.
