The Flying Lizards – S.T.
Led by English producer/composer David Cunningham, The Flying Lizards were an experimental new wave band that featured a loose group of collaborators including avant-garde musicians David Toop and Steve Beresford along with vocalists Deborah Evans-Stickland, Patti Palladin and Vivien Goldman. They are best known for their unconventional, bleepy, and dubby cover of Barrett Strong’s “Money.” The group certainly fit within the UK post-punk meets dub scene in the 80’s, albeit with more of an avant-garde approach utilizing heavy studio processing, found sounds, Sanskrit chants, and other unusual textures. Be sure to also check Cunningham, Beresford, and Toop’s later cult experimental dub project General Strike.
