The Other People Place ‎– Lifestyles Of The Laptop Café

Lifestyles of the Laptop Café is the masterpiece lone album by The Other People Place, a solo project from legendary Detroit producer James Stinson, who is most known as 1/2 of the influential Afrofuturist electro-techno group Drexciya. Lifestyles was originally intended to be one of seven conceptually-linked releases by Drexciya and its offshoot projects. Much more stripped back and personal than his work with Drexciya, the album features Stinson’s own voice and lyrics alongside punchy 808 drum beats, simple but unforgettable synthesizer melodies, and futuristic electronic textures. “Let Me Be,” in particularly, is a seriously soulful and life-affirming song with a universally relatable message. Sadly, Stinson passed away a year after the release of Lifestyles of the Laptop Café.
