Laurie Anderson – Mister Heartbreak
Queen of the avant-garde Laurie Anderson teams up with iconic bass maestro / producer Bill Laswell on her classic second studio album Mister Heartbreak. As usual with Anderson’s work, the visual storytelling is absolutely phenomenal and draws from a number of sources including Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow, William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick, along with Anderson’s own four part performance art piece United States. All the tracks are great and unique, but highlights include “Excellent Birds,” a collaboration with Peter Gabriel featuring Chic’s Nile Rodgers, the Gayageum featured “Kokoku,” and the seafaring abstract vocoder techno “Langue D’Amour.”
