Toshifumi Hinata – Another Graffiti
Japanese multi-instrumentalist composer Toshifumi Hinata studied piano at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston before returning to Japan in the early ’80s to explore electronic instruments. Disillusioned with his classical training, Hinata began to “weave musical images” by layering Prophet 5 synthesizer, Linn Drum Machine, and various acoustic instruments like violin, saxophone, tabla, and electric bass. Over the years, his works on Alfa from 1985-1987 have become in-demand cult classics and regarded as some of the most beautiful new age infused electronic classical music from the Japanese “environmental music” era. Hinata would later shift his focus to solely write for TV dramas, commercials and documentaries. This specific release Another Graffiti is not available on streaming, but many of the same tracks can be found on Music from Memory’s excellent compilation Broken Belief.
