An outlet for emerging local acts in Hawaii, KKUA’s four volume Home Grown series launched and propelled the careers of acts like Nohelani Cypriano, Cecilio & Kapono, Olomana, Country Comfort, and The Brothers Cazimero. A breezy mix of jazz, rock, disco, and folk all with a shared laidback island style, the compilation is representative of Hawaii’s “cosmopolitan blend, its mixing of races and cultures. In Home Grown, you get this chop suey feeling—indicative that music remains the universal language.” To learn more about the series, we highly recommend checking out Aloha Got Soul’s blog posts.
