Terry Callier – What Color is Love

One of the great voices of Brazilian soul alongside Tim Maia and Cassiano, Hyldon cut his teeth in Rio de Janeiro with dance bands that would mix rhythms from MPB, soul, and funk. In the later ’60s, he would work behind the scenes as a songwriter, producer, composer, and guitarist for many influential acts including Toni Tornado and Wilson Simonal, two pioneers of Brazilian black music. Hyldon’s time to shine would come in 1974 when he would record “Na Rua Na Chuva Na Fazenda,” which became an instant hit. The track would become the title of his debut album that is now a classic of Brazilian soul music and MPB. “Na Rua Na Chuva Na Fazenda” also appears in the iconic City of God soundtrack.
