Antonio Carlos E Jocafi
A classic from two legendary Brazilian composers, Antonio Carlos E Jocafi’s self-titled album is perfect psychedelic MPB. The duo were heavily active in the commercial music scene throughout the 1970’s composing for television soap operas as well as pop acts like Maria Creuza, who later would marry Antônio Carlos. The credits list here is massive… The duo enlisted a full string section, multiple percussionists, accordion, 12-string guitar, and even bass trombone to realize their grand vision. Unsurprisingly, all the tracks here are great, but A2 “Glorioso Santo Antonio” and B3 “Tereza Guerreira” stand just slightly above the rest with their catchy, laid back funk grooves and dreamy backing vocals.
