A bargain bin classic and underrated favorite, I Scare Myself is essentially a Compass Point All Stars record led by songwriter Barry Reynolds. The album features all members of Island Records’ legendary in-house band including Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar, Mikey Chung, Wally Badarou, and Uzziah Thompson, along with the equally incredible Jamaican singers Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths on backing vocals. While the album isn’t a perfect listen, the highs are indeed high and hit much of that same perfectly mellow, seductive Compass Point groove displayed on classics by Grace Jones and Marianne Faithfull.
