Black Uhuru – The Dub Factor
Recorded at the legendary Compass Point Studios and engineered by Channel One’s Soljie and Maxie, The Dub Factor is a dub classic featuring reworkings of Black Uhuru’s 1982 release Chill Out. The usual backing group of superhero rhythm section Sly & Robbie and synth master Wally Badarou provide much of the magic though Black Uhuru’s dubbed out vocal harmonies are not to be missed as well. The electronic 80’s dub sound here is perfect – Wally’s bleepy synthesizers, Sly’s electronic syndrums, and the mass of effects applied by Soljie and Maxie provide that extra bit of almost sci-fi futurism to the classic reggae grooves. Even better, the album plays out like a seamless mix; there’s not a dull moment across the ten tracks. Essential!
