Anita Baker – Rapture

Sun Arcs is a gorgeous new collection of acoustic folk and jazz from Copenhagen-based multi-instrumentalist Jason Dungan aka Blue Lake. Inspired by Dungan’s summers spent in a cabin in the Swedish woods along with the film works of Michael Snow and Don Cherry’s seminal live album Blue Lake, the music is serene and meditative with a natural beauty glowing from the acoustic instruments (self-built zithers, drones, clarinets, slide guitars). Dungan’s layering of multiple stringed instruments, drones, and improvisations while delicately adding and subtracting parts makes for a wonderfully wave-like sound, or maybe it’s closer to ripples in a pond. Recommended for fans of Last Resort, Laraaji, Virginia Astley’s “From Gardens Where We Feel Secure”, and Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
