Dutch guitar master Jan Akkerman meets blues singer Kaz Lux on their 1976 collaborative album entitled Eli. An unusual mixture of styles come together on this concept album including jazz, pop, and funk with Akkerman’s always interesting heavily effected guitar driving the compositions and Lux’s vocals providing a wild intensity that makes for a truly unique listen. The highlight here is definitely the atmospheric “Naked Actress” which features a steady CR-78 drum box rhythm and gorgeous chords and a killer pentatonic blues lick from Akkerman. Eli would win the Netherlands’ Edison Award in 1976 for Best Album.
