After spending most of the 70s in Los Angeles and a number of incredible jazz fusion laced records with Azymuth, Marcos Valle returned to Brazil to record this celebrated dancefloor favorite. A master of reinvention, Valle returned to his home country having learned that Bossa suddenly became completely unmarketable and adapted to the times. Reigning in the early 80s boogie explosion, he funked-up MPB with modern flavors and produced this timeless classic and what would become his best-selling record. The album includes a talented lineup of some of Brazil and the US’s finest, featuring soul and R&B legend Leon Ware as well as the Brazilian duo of super producers Lincoln Olivetti and Robson Jorge. It churned out a number of hits, as well as some pure mellow AOR / Balearic tunes like “Fogo Do Sol,” but the most notable cut from this 80s world masterpiece would be the DJ and Rio-boogie-cult-classic “Estrelar” – a tune that will most likely forever soundtrack pool parties and beach hangs and, believe it or not, has even found its way into the Tiktok world. The record is bursting at the seams with grooves, and as the cover may suggest, sometimes slips into some cheesy fare but is absolutely essential Rio de Janeiro boogie listening. A classic!
