Azimuth, Ralph Towner – Départ

One of our favorite deadstock finds of the year, Myles Davis and Ray Herrmann’s Hybrid Vigor is private press gold from two virtually unknown musicians from Stamford who met while working 9-5 at a women’s shoe manufacturer. Fusing together elements of post-disco, new wave, dub, and experimental music with a jazz and progressive rock vocabulary, the two musicians are perfectly sync here and tracks come across as effortless like “the sound of two guys having fun and not giving a shit about what anyone else thought about it.” There’s bit of David Byrne and Brian Eno, Liquid Liquid, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, and even Sly & Robbie here. We highly recommend picking this one up from RVNG before it disappears.
