Donna Summer – Four Seasons of Love

Romantic Journey is a bargain bin classic from Philly drummer Norman Connors. The record features “Once I’ve Been There,” a disco bomb that was a massive Paradise Garage hit played repeatedly by Larry Levan. Connors also channels his spiritual and cosmic side on this record with a grooving jazz-funk rendition of Pharoah Sanders’ “Thembi,” which features the great saxophonist himself on soprano. While he’s mostly known now for his R&B and disco records, Connors actually started out as a jazz drummer working with Sanders, Archie Shepp, as well as the great cosmic visionary Sun Ra.
