Stark drum & bass riddims accompany mystical flute and melodica melodies on Prince Buster’s The Message Dub Wise. Much like his mentor Studio One founder Clement “Coxsone” Dodd, Prince Buster keeps these mixes pure and raw with little effects, instead simply placing emphasis on the rhythm section, often dropping everything else out to focus on just the drum and bass — resulting in quite an atmospheric and ethereal dub sound. This album was apparently the first dub album that UK dub legend Mad Professor bought, and was the one that inspired him to do dub. “I couldn’t believe it. I never heard nothing like that before. It’s a really haunting album. I still think it’s one of the best.”
