Raymond Scott – Soothing Sounds For Baby Volume II (6-12 Months)
Soothing Sounds for Baby (1962) is a three-volume set of ambient electronic music by American composer, musician, and inventor Raymond Scott. Originally intended to lull infants to sleep, the album had a less than favorable initial response with reviews in the ’60s calling it “skull splitting.” The set has since found more of an audience with electronic music fans and has been compared to the works of Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, and Tangerine Dream. Volume II is meant for 6-12 month olds and includes some dreamy electronic pop with drum box rhythms and warm synthesizers melodies. We’ve never personally played this music for a child, but surely this would lead to some interesting brain / musical development! “The music is based on the premise that the sense of hearing in the young child is better developed than many people realize…”
