Terraced Garden – Melody & Menace
Featured in the “Psychedelic” section of Chee Shimizu’s Obscure Sound disc guide, Melody & Menace is the self-released debut from Toronto-based progressive rock group Terraced Garden. Led by multi-instrumentalist/composer Carl Tafel, the album flows with gorgeous multi-part vocal harmonies supported by nylon string guitar, keys, flutes, Mellotron, violin, and numerous other instruments without getting too overly complicated. There’s bits of blues, jazz, folk, new age, ambient, and rock pieced together throughout and great moments reminiscent of King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Jade Warrior. Check the recommended tracks for our favorite quieter sections on the album.
