Released on the aptly titled Coney Dog Records, Michigan Meltdown is a compilation of rare Michigan garage, psychedelic, and space rock from little-known bands released mostly on private press 45’s. The first volume, Post-Garage Pandemonium And Pre-Punk Fuzz Freaks From The Mitten State’s Miliken Era, contains two incredible tracks from Flying Wedge, a band of young black musicians playing heavy rock that played around the same scenes as Death and Black Merda. Their lone release was pressed in 1972 and is one of Michigan’s most collectible rock 45’s. Jay Walker Effort’s “Paper Dolls” is another highlight with fuzzy dual guitar shredding, lo-fi production, and psychedelic vocals. “This group was likely aiming for Cream, but ended up with something hipper.”
