William Ackerman – In Search of the Turtle’s Naval
The inaugural release by cult new age label Windham Hill is also the debut album by its founder, William Ackerman. In Search of the Turtle’s Naval transformed Ackerman from a Stanford dropout carpenter to a record company executive and near overnight success. Inspired musically by John Fahey’s Takoma Records, the album pioneered a new acoustic music that many consider to be one of the earliest examples of “new age.” It’s a lovely full-listen of meditative acoustic fingerpicking, shifting moods, and improvisation. Big early morning favorite at the ISC listening bar!
