If spacey electronics are your thing, this is your record! Released in 1976, Patrick Vian’s Bruit et Temps Analogues, was way ahead of its time in terms of the sounds that could be made with a synthesizer. Playing in an almost free-form style and without a metronome, Vian explores a cosmic jazz-rock sound, bringing us through his stream of consciousness with a spaced out abandon. With its masterful use of minimal percussion and elegantly sequenced cacophony of analog, computer modulated synthesizers and Moogs, this record was innovative and influential in many ways. While largely still under the radar so many years later, Vian’s first band, Red Noise, actually paved the way for Alan Parsons, who in turn, went on to produce Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. A deep dive worthy of checking out indeed.
