Outer Circle – S.T.
Not much information is known about Los Angeles-based synth-pop band Outer Circle besides the fact that they played around the city in places like Lhasa Club and The Roxy during the early ’80s. Their lone self-titled album on Long Beach-based Bemisbrain Records is a bit of an oddity in the post-punk spectrum that lands somewhere between minimal wave and synth-punk with cold synthesizers, guitars, and melancholic vocals. The songs are all properly creative though, especially the final track “Broken Children” which has a sorted twisted lounge singer vibe with Steven “Spit” Spingola crooning over a repetitive drum machine groove and slide guitar before moving into an extended synth solo / outro. If you’re into it, this one pops up quite a bit around Los Angeles.
