The Cyrkle – Neon
The Cyrkle was a short-lived American rock-n-roll band in the ’60s best known for their #2 Billboard chart hit “Red Rubber Ball” and touring with the Beatles on their final U.S. tour. Their sophomore release Neon is a solid collection of psychedelic pop/rock with folk-rock accents, vocal harmonies, and a twanging sitar that’s something of a recurring sound for the band. Most of the tracks on the album are decent, but it’s really all about A2 “The Visit (She Was Here),” a haunting song about lost love that features a devastatingly beautiful brass melody. The line “Drifting by, just suddenly” was also masterfully flipped by A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-tip on their 1996 track “Get A Hold.”
